On My Shoulders (OMS) is a strengths-based, experiential curriculum designed to give fathers from a variety of backgrounds effective tools for being strong, effective fathers. OMS is not a parenting class per se, but is an experiential learning process that emphasizes relationship skills, builds self-awareness, addresses emotions, promotes mindful choices (Deciding, not Sliding), and encourages participants to value themselves as fathers and as men in the world. 

As it is assumed that On My Shoulders Fatherhood Curriculum will be offered in fatherhood programs in communities all across the country, we have written this material with a broad audience in mind. It is suitable for fathers and fatherhood groups in the military, family violence programs, re-entry settings, and social service agencies that are interested in creating father- and male-friendly programs.

OMS focuses on core relationship values, such as commitment, respect, and healthy attachment. It also focuses on workable practical skills that make for effective parenting and effective relationships in general. Social science research lends strong support to the idea that improved functioning in one part of life spills over into other areas of life!
