GOT YOUR BACK V6

What is the biggest difference between Version 5 and Version 6?

The most significant content updates in Got Your Back (GYB) Version 6 are found in Units 5, 6, and 7. In addition to these major revisions, updates have been made throughout the curriculum to improve transitions between activities, updated media content, and broaden the applicability of examples and discussions to a wider variety of important relationships and real-life situations servicemembers may encounter.

Unit 5: Good Communication has been completely redesigned to provide broadly

applicable communication skills for a variety of relationships and situations servicemembers may encounter by introducing them to The LINE Model.

Unit 6: Expectations has been revised to include another potential source of conflict and disappointment—Hidden Issues. This inclusion helps servicemembers evaluate what they bring to the important relationships in their lives, whether personal or professional.

Unit 7: Relationship Decisions has a new teaching video that introduces participants to the power of commitment as well as Deciding, rather than Sliding, in important romantic transitions in order to protect and preserve their relationship goals.

How have the Facilitator Materials changed?

While the core themes and foundational concepts of GYB remain the same, the facilitator materials have been significantly improved to enhance usability, clarity, and flexibility.

The updated Facilitator Guide includes:

  • Improved lesson flow and smoother transitions between activities
  • Clearer formatting for discussion prompts and facilitator notes
  • Updated examples and scenarios designed to apply to a broader range of relationships and experiences
  • Enhanced guidance to support facilitator confidence and participant engagement

For example, participants now practice adapting communication strategies such as Time Out to a variety of situations, including interactions with commanding officers, family members, friends, coworkers, and romantic partners. Likewise, activities surrounding expectations now explore both workplace and personal relationship dynamics.

The PowerPoint slides and media files have also been updated for improved visibility on televisions and projectors. Digital downloads now include two separate media formats:

  • In-Person Training Version:
Includes higher-resolution embedded videos and captions for easier viewing and accessibility during classroom instruction.
  • Virtual Training Version:
Includes videos separated by unit and lower-resolution media files to better support online training platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

How have the Participant Materials changed?

GYB Version 6 introduces a fully bound Participant Guide that contains all units in a single book. This updated format makes it easier for servicemembers to keep materials organized and follow along throughout the workshop experience.

The Participant Guide also includes:

  • Updated page layouts designed for improved readability and accessibility
  • Clearer instructions and activity formatting
  • Notes and stand-alone activities participants can complete independently if time does not allow every unit to be fully covered during a workshop

These improvements are intended to help participants engage more effectively with the material both during and after training.

Will facilitators need to learn new content?

Yes — facilitators who have previously been trained in earlier versions of Got Your Back are strongly encouraged to complete an On-Demand Training focused on the three units with the most significant updates (Units 5, 6, and 7).

This training will help facilitators:

  • Understand the major curriculum changes
  • Become familiar with new teaching concepts and media
  • Confidently facilitate updated discussions and activities

The On-Demand Training is anticipated to be released in August 2026.

PREP, Inc. will also be hosting a live Zoom Training on June 16–17, 2026. This is a full Got Your Back Version 6 facilitator training intended for both new and returning facilitators.

Will I be able to order GYB Version 6 in individual modules?

Yes. Individual modules for GYB Version 6 are planned for future release. At this time, they are not yet available, but we anticipate individual module ordering to begin in August 2026.

Does GYB Version 6 fit into a one-day workshop format?

Yes — but facilitators will need to make intentional decisions about pacing and content selection.

GYB Version 6 contains 8 units, and covering all content thoroughly would typically require approximately 8 hours. Because of this, completing every unit in a single duty-day workshop may not always be realistic.

Like all PREP curricula, GYB is designed with flexibility in mind. Facilitators are encouraged to adapt the curriculum based on:

  • Available time
  • Training setting
  • Audience needs
  • Organizational priorities and resources

Guidance for making these decisions is included in the Facilitator Guide.

If I’m not ready to transition to Version 6, can I still purchase Version 5?

Yes. PREP, Inc. will continue selling Got Your Back Version 5 while current inventory remains available. However, once Version 5 materials are sold out, they will no longer be reprinted.

Will I need new Facilitator Materials for Version 6?

Yes. Because the curriculum content, activities, and media have changed, facilitators will need the updated Version 6 materials for future workshops.

A GYB Version 6 Facilitator Replacement Pack is available for $180 and includes:

  • Facilitator Guide
  • Participant Guide
  • Digital Download Media Files for both in-person and virtual workshops
